Radioderm®

Radiation dermatitis is often characterised by swelling, redness, pigmentation, fibrosis and ulceration of the skin. Symptoms are expressed as pain, warmth, burning and itching of the skin.4

Skin reactions and symptoms related to radiation therapy usually begin within 1-4 weeks of the start of radiation therapy and persist for the duration of radiation therapy.2 The severity of symptoms may increase for 7-10 days after radiotherapy has finished1 and may require 2-4 weeks to heal upon completion of treatment.2
In the UK, it is reported that all patients receiving radiotherapy are at a potential risk of developing some degree of radiation dermatitis.1
Radiation dermatitis will have an impact on the level of pain and discomfort experienced by the patient and may affect the quality of life.4

In addition to being traumatic for the patient, radiation dermatitis may also necessitate treatment breaks while the reaction is managed.4,6 Delays in radiotherapy treatment can have a detrimental effect on treatment outcomes.6

In some cases, complex surgical reconstruction of damaged skin may be required.4

How does
Radioderm® work?

Radioderm® protects the skin in the early stages of lesions or dermatitis, which are caused by radiotherapy. It has a preventive effect on the progression of tissue damage and reduces redness, itching and burning in the area exposed to ionising radiation, promoting completion of treatment without unwanted withdrawals or delays.3
